The time has come to soak some money into our split-level house, which was built in about 1960 and is on a street with a long row of virtually identical houses. We are in Northern Virginia, near DC.
We have discovered that it is very hard to change the exterior of split levels and still have it look right, so after lots of time spent making drawings of possible additions, we have decided to keep the same footprint, adding only a screened porch onto the back. 看And a kitchen remodel is top of our list.

Here is our split-level from the front. White vinyl siding over white painted brick, with black shutters and a black door. Note that the sections of the house are all horizontal rectangles, as are the window panes.
